World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) will take place on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. WRAD was started by LitWorld in 2010 as a way to advocate for global literacy and to share the power of reading aloud with families around the world. Reading aloud every day puts kids 1 year ahead -- no matter their background! We will be celebrating World Read Aloud Day at McRae Elementary School in a couple different ways: Enjoying VIRTUAL Guest Read Alouds Dressing up as our favorite BOOK CHARACTERS *see guidelines below World Read Aloud Day will also serve as the kick-off for our McRae Family Read Aloud Challenge which encourages families to read aloud for at least 10 minutes EVERYDAY. The challenge will last from February 2- March 2. If you have any questions about World Read Aloud Day please contact Mrs. Philpot or your classroom teacher. Help us promote this event by taking a picture of yourself with the book you will read aloud on World Read Aloud Day. Share it with your networks and ask them to comment with their favorite read aloud books. Include the following tags and hashtags! @LitWorld #RISEArkansas #WorldReadAloudDay 2022 #RISEMcRae COSTUME GUIDELINES --Students will wear their outfits to school on February 2, 2022. Students are also encouraged to bring the book their character is from! --Students are encouraged not to spend money on costumes, but rather be “imaginative” in their creativity. Use what is available at home. --Costumes need to follow school guidelines and need to be weather appropriate (no inappropriate props or attire, wear jackets and appropriate shoes). --Students will still be required to wear face masks in accordance to our COVID-19 protocols.

Due to the increased volume of communication with COVID-19 points of contact, we are adding points of contact for individual campuses. Effective immediately, any staff member or parent of a student who tests positive for COVID-19 or is exposed to COVID-19, needs to call the point of contact associated with the correct campus. If your campus does not have a specified point of contact, please continue to call Dovie Baxter at 501-230-0383, and we will update you with your new point of contact as the information becomes available. Please do not email, text, or leave a voicemail. You must speak directly with the designated contact. If the contact does not answer your call immediately, she will return your call as soon as possible. The hours to report a positive case or exposure are seven days a week from 7:30 A.M.-8:00 P.M. Thank you for your cooperation, and please see the additional points of contact below: McRae Elementary-Cynthia Cooper, 501-305-1685 Ahlf Junior High School-Kendra Wood, 501-254-9153 Searcy High School-Kayla Beard, 501-230-8399

Our Spring Scholastic Book Fair will be January 24-February 4. Due to strict covid restrictions, this book fair will look different than our fall fair. We strongly encourage our students to use ewallet instead of cash to help us limit exposure. Instructions for setting up an ewallet can be found on attached images. Week 1 (January 24-January 28) students will create wish lists. There will be no student shopping during Week 1. You are not required to buy the books on your student’s wish list. There is a possibility that popular books will sell out and substitutions will need to be made. Week 2 (January 31-February 1) students may shop during their designated library time. Students will only get one chance to shop the book fair. If their shopping time is missed for any reason, students can shop online at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/mcraeelementaryschool3.
