Congratulations to Ahlf Junior High School history teacher Melanie Barker for being named the Arkansas National History Day New Teacher of the Year! The National History Day organization selects a teacher who has participated in National History Day for two years or less. Teachers are nominated by their fellow colleagues. Mrs. Barker was nominated by her peers for her enthusiasm and level of commitment to the National History Day program and selected as the overall state winner by a panel of judges. She will be attending the national competition in College Park, Maryland (outside of Washington D.C.) June 11-15. Searcy School District had students from Ahlf Junior High School and Searcy High School qualify to compete in the national contest. These students will be recognized in a separate post. Congratulations, Mrs. Barker, for this outstanding achievement!
